Research in architecture and construction on passive structures, on materials and techniques to keep warm in winter and cool in summer, on strategies to recycle and reuse raw materials, structural elements, packaging, and even locations, to reduce environmental (and economic) transport costs is increasingly relevant. Awareness of the problem is becoming increasingly important, especially given that the construction sector accounts for almost 40% of global carbon dioxide emissions. And 11% of these are the result of the production of building materials such as steel, cement or glass.

By definition, carbon neutrality eliminates the number of greenhouse gases produced by human activity by reducing existing emissions and applying methods to absorb carbon dioxide from the atmosphere.

Bulgaria is also working on projects and measures to promote energy efficiency in residential buildings. How design and architecture help save the planet - we talk about that together with architect Petar Dikov - Executive Director of the Institute for Urban Planning, and before that for 10 years Chief Architect of Sofia Municipality, Dragomir Tsanev - Executive Director of the Center for Energy Efficiency EnEffect, Eng.
